Flippant remains the outright $4.60 favourite in 2017 Aurie’s Star Handicap betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au despite drifting, ahead of Cannyescent ($5.50), Hey Doc ($6) and Grande Rosso ($6.50).
Will Flippant justify her market favouritism and win the 2017 Aurie’s Star Handicap, or will one of her talented rivals post an upset?

I Am A Star ($7.50)
Group 1 winner I Am A Star has been all but abandoned in 2017 Aurie’s Star Handicap betting markets, but is the class horse of this field, is a proven first-up performer and is over the odds at her current quote. The first three-year-old winner of the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) last spring, the I Am Invincible mare resumed this year for second in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) and while failing to fire in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), posted consecutive wins in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m). Last seen running on well for third after a tough run in transit in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m), I Am A Star should prove extremely difficult to beat in the Aurie’s Star Handicap.

We’ve Got This ($8.50)
We’ve Got This relishes racing down the famous Flemington straight, is drawn to find the rail early from barrier 2 and should be right in the finish of the Aurie’s Star Handicap. Winner of the Hong Kong Jockey Club BM96 (1200m) early last year, the Hard Spun gelding resumed in spring for a number of strong performances and results; finishing third in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and second in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington most notably. The horse has trialled extremely well in the lead-up to his return and is a live chance in Aurie’s Star Handicap betting markets.
3rd
Hey Doc ($6)
Hey Doc is one of the class horses of this field, he runs well fresh and he should be right in the finish of the Aurie’s Star Handicap. Resuming in autumn for a credible third in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m), the Duporth gelding returned to winning form in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) before flying home to win the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 4th. While failing to fire in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m). Last seen finishing sixth in a hit-and-run mission in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m), Hey Doc relishes racing at Flemington and should prove tough to beat.
