2023 Randwick Guineas Field & Odds Update: Aft Cabin Favourite

2023 Randwick Guineas Scratchings Update: #10 Holymanz (11), #11 The Fortune Teller (13) and #12 Attrition (1) have all come out in favour of a run in Flemington’s Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on the same day in Melbourne.

Aft Cabin is tipped to return to winning form third-up for Godolphin with the smart colt favourite in 2023 Randwick Guineas betting for Saturday in Sydney.

The Group 1 $1 million The Agency Randwick Guineas (1600m) field is down to a dozen three-year-olds with the early scratchings of Holymanz (11) and The Fortune Teller (13) who both race in Melbourne’s Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on the same day instead.

Updated Randwick Guineas odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are firmly led by the James Cummings-trained Aft Cabin in gate 10 with James McDonald back in the saddle of the Astern colt.

Cummings rode the horse first-up for a strong win over Zou Tiger in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

Things went amiss with Tim Clark aboard last start however with Aft Cabin fifth as the beaten odds-on favourite in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m).

He now heads back to Randwick and gets out over a mile for the first time and is at $2.90 through Ladbrokes.com.au to handle the 1600m.

Three of his rivals are also at single-figure Randwick Guineas odds for the win this autumn including Aft Cabin’s last start conqueror, the Chris Waller-trained Hobartville Stakes winner Osipenko ($4.60).

Osipenko scratched out of the Australian Guineas field in favour of staying in Sydney to chase the Hobartville Stakes – Randwick Guineas double last completed by The Autumn Sun (2019).

The nicely-bred Pierro colt has been out over 1600m once prior and was eye-catching only a half-length behind Golden Mile at double-figures in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) during the spring.

He was disappointing on Heavy going when over 11 lengths seventh to Aft Cabin the run prior in the Prelude where he was unsuited to the wet track.

After his Eskimo Prince fifth Osipenko narrowly won the Hobartville and can improve again here third-up and fit.

John O’Shea’s Eskimo Prince and Hobartville Stakes runner-up Zou Tiger is the $6.50 third elect followed in the markets by Matcha Latte ($9).

Zou Tiger gets the run of the race form barrier six with Brenton Avdulla staying on the son of Zoustar.

There was nothing between him and Osipenko in the Hobartville on the line and he brings in form around Jacquinot having run third to the recent protest CF Orr winner only 1.4 lengths off him at 60/1 in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) back in September last year.

Matcha Latte is also drawn well in barrier five with the Mark Newnham-trained Maurice colt sure to relish the mile second-up after crossing just a quarter-length third fresh at 25/1 in the Hobartville.

He chases his second win and first since breaking his maiden status over 1300m in the wet at Kensington last August.

Matcha Latte was strong to the line in his three subsequent spring runs when runner-up in the Ming Dynasty to Golden Mile, second in the Gloaming and then fourth in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) making him the value on Saturday.

The Mitchell Freedman-trained Attrition was being kept safe at $10 before being scratched for a run in the Australian Guineas, while Chris Waller’s Victoria Derby winner Manzoice resumes ($27) in the Randwick Guineas from a wide alley.

The Randwick Guineas 2023 is set to run as Randwick Race 8 at 4:40pm (AEDT) with full markets thanks to Ladbrokes.com.au available by clicking here.
