2025 Doomben Cup Field & Betting Update: Antino v Pride Of Jenni

The Doomben Cup 2025 continues the elite level action of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival this weekend and it is a tight betting affair with Antino and Pride Of Jenni battling for top spot in the markets.

The Group 1 $1 million Doomben Cup (2000m) features a class line-up of winter staying types including Tony Gollan‘s surprise last start Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) winner in the wet at the Gold Coast Antino.

The local Redwood six-year-old is installed as the early favourite in Doomben Cup betting at $3.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au out to do the double for the first time since Zaaki (2021).

Antino is out to complete the Hollindale Stakes / Doomben Cup double for the first time since Zaaki in 2021!

The money is coming for the galloper to hand Gollan his maiden Doomben Cup trophy on Saturday with the horse returning to his pet Doomben track where he is two-from-two at.

Runaway winner of last year’s Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield by 6.5 lengths, Antino proved he could handle further with Gollan giving him his first genuine preparation as a longer-distance horse this time in.

After a failed run in the Hong Kong Mile last December, things didn’t go Antino’s way fresh in the All Aged Stakes when 11th to Jimmysstar but he atoned in the Hollindale and brings in the right form lines to Saturday’s Doomben Cup race now.

Antino drew wide out in gate 11 of 13 in the official Doomben Cup final field, a gate that last produced a winner with Comin’ Through in 2018.

He has regular rider Blake Shinn continuing associations with triple Doomben Cup winning hoop Shinn chasing his fourth win in the feature and back-to-back victories following his success on Bois D’Argent last year.

Antion’s main danger is Ciaron Maher‘s brilliant front-running mare Pride Of Jenni who got her groove back with a powerhouse performance to win Caulfield’s Listed Anniversary Vase (1600m) by over two lengths with 61kg on May 3.

She follows very closely in the markets at $3.80 and is drawn the inside alley with Craig Newitt to ride.

Beaten Up in 2013 was the last Doomben Cup winner to get the job done from barrier one.

Pride Of Jenni is out to be the first Doomben Cup winner from the inside alley since Beaten Up (2013)!

Back to her best when down in grade there she looks fit and ready to fire again this weekend returning to Group 1 company for her first Doomben assignment.

The triple Group 1 winning daughter of Pride Of Dubai is proven at the 2000m distance including her incredible 6.5 length romp home over Via Sistina in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) in Sydney last year.

Outside of the dominant duo the next shortest priced fancies at Doomben Cup odds of $7 are Fawkner Park and Eliyass drawn in gates nine and 13 respectively.

The Annabel & Rob Archibald trained Fawkner Park was third in last year’s Doomben Cup trifecta and has to improve and steal the show in 2015.

The Zoffany six-year-old will have Ethan Brown aboard and chases his first win since last November’s Rosehill Gold Cup in Sydney.

He is another Hollindale graduate looking to frank the Queensland form having run second from a wide alley in the wet 3.5 lengths off Antino last start.

The Archibalds also have now eight-year-old grey Bois D’Argent returning to defend his Doomben Cup title as a $15 shot in the latest markets and $34 outsider, fellow rising nine-year-old My Oberon, who ran third in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup at his latest.

Eliyass meanwhile lines up from the outside alley for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott with the French bred galloper out to atone for his distant finish in the Hollindale first-up on Heavy going.

Since 2009, master trainer Chris Waller has prepared three Doomben Cup winners and saddles-up some genuine hopes again this season with four of the 13 final acceptors.

Heading the Waller contingent are Lindermann, winner of 2023 Rosehill Guineas, and triple Group 1 winning four-year-old Militarize looking to return to his better form.

Waller will also be represented by his Hollindale third placegetter Kovalica who looks somewhat underrated in Saturday’s Group 1 and Pierro five-year-old Osipenko who was last seen running second in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m).

Matthew Smith‘s Chairman’s Handicap at the track last weekend Floating, the Kelly Schweida trained four-year-old Russian Revolution mare Miss Jolene who caught the eye with a brave Hollindale fourth, and 100/1 roughie at time of publish Klondike having just his second start in Australia complete the line-up.

The 2025 XXXX Doomben Cup is scheduled as Doomben Race 8 at 3:57PM (AEST) on Saturday’s nine-race Brisbane card.
