A daring front-running ride from apprentice hoop Rochelle Milnes saw the local Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea trained Silent Surrente ($10) outstay her rivals in a thrilling home-town victory in the 2025 Adelaide Cup results. A well-bred daughter of former Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente, Silent Surrente atoned for her narrow Lord Reims loss last time out showing plenty of guts when three-wide at the 1400m before holding off the late challengers to win by 1.2 lengths on the line.

Raced over 3200m, the Adelaide Cup is the same distance as the prestigious Melbourne Cup held on the first Tuesday of November each spring at Flemington Racecourse in Victoria. Back in 1992 the great grey Subzero completed the rare Adelaide Cup – Melbourne Cup double.

Run on a Monday afternoon each year on the Labour Day public holiday in SA, the always popular staying event offers just over $350,000 in prize money, and the event attracts a host of local stayers as well as a few interstate horses chasing the lucrative prize money in the classic.

The key lead-up into the Adelaide Cup field is Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) held roughly two weeks prior at the same track. Melbourne raiders in the Adelaide Cup field may come off a Flemington run in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) on Australian Guineas Day.

The latest Adelaide Cup winners to back-up out of the Roy Higgins were the Lindsay Park-trained mare Fanatic (2nd in 2018) and the Danny O’Brien-trained King Of Leogrance (2020) who did the double.

Silent Surrente (2nd in 2025) was the last Lord Reims Stakes graduate to continue on and win the Adelaide Cup.

The 2022 Adelaide Cup form was franked with the winner Daqiansweet Junior running a next-up third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick. Future Score meanwhile ran third in that year’s Adelaide Cup results and then fourth in the Sydney Cup.

The 2025 Adelaide Cup ran on Monday March 10, 2025 at Morphettville Racecourse as one of the biggest races of the year in South Australia and was won by star local Fiorente mare Silent Surrente ($10) in a brave front running performance.

2025 Adelaide Cup Tips

Stay tuned for our insider Adelaide Cup 2025 Tips and best bets on the Group 2 staying showdown this March.

  • To Win: #5 Gotta Go Guru ($9.50 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Going for the value and tipping Gotta Go Guru to continue her winning streak. The well-bred daughter of 2013 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente is bred to stay and comes in red hot fit and full of confidence. She chases her impressive fifth consecutive victory after winning the traditional Adelaide Cup lead-up here last time out. It was a very narrow photo-thriller in the Group 3 Lord Reims over 2600m so the bookies are going the way of the placegetters out of it. But how can you knock a mare riding this rich a vein of form? She only goes up a half-kilo so is still very well weighted in on 53.5kg. She was huge with 60kg two runs back at the Parks track over 2250m. Handled the notable rise in distance and class for the Group 3 and deserves a shot at the two miles which I think she’ll see out.

2025 Adelaide Cup Field

The Adelaide Cup field features an ever increasing quality of both local and visiting autumn stayers coming out of lead-up races including Flemington’s Roy Higgins Quality that produced the 2017 champ Annus Mirabilis (5th), 2018 winner Fanatic (2nd) and 2020 champ King Of Leogrance (1st); Tasmania’s Launceston Cup (2400m) the month before and the Lord Reims Stakes that is the key local lead-up.

The official Adelaide Cup 2025 final field and barriers are announced on the Thursday prior to the race and will be published in full below.

The 2025 Adelaide Cup field features a smart line-up of autumn stayers led in betting by the Phillip Stokes trained Taramansour coming off an eye-catching third in the Group 3 Lord Reims.

2025 Adelaide Cup Nominations

Early nominations for the Adelaide Cup in 2025 close on a Thursday in late February.

Adelaide Cup History

Originally run in May, the Adelaide Cup was moved to March in 2005. The Morphettville Racecourse has been home to the Cup since 1876 and was previously held at the Old Course where it was first won by Falcon in 1864. Over the years the event has switched between being a two mile and one mile five-furlong race, however in the years 1870-71 and 1886-88, the race was not held.

The Adelaide Cup is not used as a guide to the Melbourne Cup as the last Cup double winner was Subzero in 1992. In 2007 the event was downgraded from Group 1 status to Group 2, a decision made by the Australian Pattern Committee.

The Adelaide Cup has one triple winner which is Lord Reims which won the event three consecutive times from 1987-1989. The race’s double winners include Cowra in 1866-67, Eyeglass in 1911-12, Peerless Fox in 1950-51 and Our Pompeii in 1993-94.

The 2019 Adelaide Cup winner Surprise Baby went on to run an eye-catching fifth under a length beaten by Vow And Declare in that spring’s Melbourne Cup results.

Silent Surrente (2025) was the last Adelaide Cup winning mare.
