- To Win: #6 Secret Glory ($9 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Tricky race for the punters without much form to go on but sticking with one of the non-debutants and have Secret Glory for the powerhouse Godolphin stable on top fresh at her second career start. The Blue Point filly’s sole run to date produced a fifth at Newcastle in the Max Lees Classic (900m) last November where she finished 2.7 lengths off the winner. Put away after that and has been brought on with a couple of nice trials. Back-to-back winning hitouts, including one here at Flemington in February, have her fit and ready to fire in the Group 3. Ben Melham partners her from the inside alley and looks to have enough improvement to break her maiden status.

2025 Ottawa Stakes Nominations
Early nominations for the Ottawa Stakes in 2025 close the Monday of race week.
Ottawa Stakes History
The Ottawa Stakes was inaugurated in 1978, and two editions of the race were held that year. The next year it was made a listed race, whereas previously it had ran as a principal event.
The Ottawa Stakes was not run between 1986 and 1990. Following its return, it was regularly sponsored, with the sponsor often changing yearly. Some of the various names that the Ottawa Stakes has been known by include the Beck’s Bier Stakes, Toyota Victoria Stakes, Subaru Stakes, Myer Stakes, Jayco Stakes, Schiavello Stakes and 7News Plate.
Following the 2013 edition, the Ottawa Stakes was upgraded to Group 3.
Prior to the race moved from the spring to the autumn, the majority of juvenile fillies in the Ottawa Stakes field were on debut.
Plenty of the best fillies out of the spring’s Ottawa Stakes went on to contest tougher races over their career. The 2016 Ottawa Stakes third placed Madeenaty finished third in the following year’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast, while the 2015 runner-up Prompt Response would go on to win in Group 2 company.
The Debutant Stakes at Caulfield previously served as a nice lead-up race, while some of the best out of the Ottawa Stakes often returned the following autumn for a shot at the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).
The Ottawa Stakes form from 2022 was franked with the winner Charm Stone returning the following autumn to win the Group 3 Quezette Stakes and also finish a credible fifth in the 2023 Golden Rose in Sydney.
Notable Ottawa Stakes winners include Specify (1978), Catalina Queen (1983), Bright Light (1995), True Jewels (2000), and Villa Verde (2012).
